A big gold star to The Great Nobby for spotting the ironic typo in my rant about clueless, sub-literate, young job applicants. [Ironic? Yes – sweet, delicious, suckulent irony.]
Thanks also to the correspondent who added two other very commonly occurring spelling errors to the list:
Lose – Loose
Break – Brake

I’d just like to say …“Gaaaaah!!”

The wonderful William Goldman (of Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid fame) wrote a great line in The Princess Bride. Vizzini, the evil Sicilian genius played in the film by Wallace Shawn, keeps shouting that the hero’s actions and abilities are “inconceivable” – prompting this exchange:

Vizzini: “He didn’t fall? In-con-ceiv-able!”
Inigo: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Buy a dictionary and make sure that what you are writing is what you mean.
