Guy Browning in his wry, inimitable style:

Traditional jungle headhunters work by tracking you down, shrinking your head and making you into an attractive necklace. Modern headhunters work by tracking you down, inflating your head and making you an attractive job offer.

Headhunter is a really good name for a job and sounds tough and butch. What headhunters actually do amounts to little more than business kiss-chase. However, they can be very useful as an alternative means to getting someone you don’t like removed from your company.

Next time a headhunter calls, give them a list of the people you want to get rid of, including your boss, and see how many people you can help with their ‘career development.’

You can get Guy’s excellent little book, Office Politics, here.
